The Supreme Court has ruled (6 to 3) in favor of the Obama administration to continue federal tax credits (subsidies) for members who currently receive them. We are happy that it is “business as usual” for our members due to this decision. “Today’s Supreme Court decision confirms that the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits are available to all eligible Americans no matter where they live. Americans in all 50 states and the District of Columbia can continue to rely on the security and peace of mind that come with affordable, quality health care coverage. Over six million Americans and their families will sleep easier knowing they will still be able to afford health coverage. Millions more won’t have to worry about an upward spiral in their premiums because of today’s decision, even if they didn’t buy their insurance through the Marketplace. Consumers’ Choice Health Plan set to be the lowest cost option for South Carolinians

South Carolina’s only health insurance CO-OP, Consumers’ Choice Health Plan, will again offer competitive rates during the second nationwide open enrollment period which begins Saturday, November 15. Initial analyses show it to be the lowest health care coverage option in most of the state’s rating areas. Also, current members will see only a slight increase in their renewal rates, some will even see decreases. Much of the Consumers’ Choice membership is made up of individual and family plans offered under the ACA (Affordable Care Act). The CO-OP also offers plans for small businesses through its ACA platform and in the private market. “We’ve worked very hard to stay true to our mission of offering high-quality, affordable coverage and I’m proud of what our team has been able to accomplish,” said President and CEO Jerry Burgess . Dr. Quivers Announced as Consumers’ Choice Health Plan Chief Medical Officer

Consumers’ Choice Health Plan, South Carolina’s health insurance CO-OP, is pleased to announce the recent addition of Dr. Eric Quivers as chief medical officer for the health plan. Dr. Quivers’ responsibilities include assuring appropriate health care delivery, overseeing accreditation and clinical quality improvement endeavors along with promoting wellness and prevention, education and outreach programs. Consumers’ Choice is very fortunate to have Dr. Quivers’ rich experience in health care as we plan for 2014 and beyond,” said Jerry Burgess, Consumers’ Choice Health Plan president and CEO. “He is very committed to our mission to provide consumer-friendly health care coverage with a focus on patient participation and provider engagement.” Eric S. Quivers, M.D. is a board certified pediatric cardiologist with experience as both a clinician and a health plan medical director. He received his undergraduate degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. His residency in pediatrics was completed at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He received his fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Quivers joins Consumers’ Choice Health Plan of South Carolina from Dean Health Plan in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Quivers’ career includes serving as a staff pediatrician for a public health clinic and as a faculty member of two children’s hospitals specializing in congenital heart disease, preventive cardiology, exercise medicine and cardiac transplantation in children with end-stage heart disease.
